A fierce competition has evolved between airports and residential communities. The rising demand for air travel and the never ending development of residential homes and businesses has sparked a nationwide debate regarding land usage. Airports that were initially nothing more than grass field located on a farm have emerged into complex structures with roadways, hangars and terminal buildings. The farmer's grass field that only had a few airplanes a week take off and land, now have several large jets landing every minute of every hour, every day. Aviation slowly evolved and the grass strip in the field was paved, terminals were constructed, and the airport as we know it was born. As the population of the towns that the airports serviced expanded, so did the airport traffic, emissions, and noise that the airport produced.
